Breckenridge has 5 inches of fresh powder, topping of a a week of 20 inches of new snow. A fantastic mid-mountain base of 26" greeted holiday skiers and riders with some of the best Thanksgiving conditions in years. But more is on the way. Forecasters predict another 5 to 9 inches beginning Tuesday through late-week, just in time for the first weekend of December. Breck just pulled in 4 inches of new snow yesterday in an early week storm that dropped 6 inches over the past two days. It's still cold this morning with maybe another inch expected, but opening day Friday up at Peak 8 should be balmy. Lifts open at 9 a.m. and don't forget the annual free pancake breakfast at the Bergendorf starting at 8:30 a.m.

Breckenridge, Colorado – October 26, 2006. Breckenridge, Colorado is reeling from one of the first winter storms of the season. The storm hit the resort with a vengeance late Wednesday, October 25 and left the area covered in over 15 inches of wet, early season snow. Officials rushed to close Interstate 70, the state’s primary east-west thoroughfare, as hundreds of motorists found themselves stuck and stranded on the side of the road. Highway 285, connecting Denver and Colorado Springs to Breckenridge from a southern route, has also been shut down temporarily. Additionally, the heavy snow shut down all local schools and many across the front range Denver/Boulder area. Even for a high-alpine resort that is accustomed to winter storms, this one shook the county.
Despite the inconveniences, the early storm was a blessing in disguise for the area ski resorts. Summit County, Colorado is home to 5 major ski resorts within a 20 mile radius, including Breckenridge Ski Area, and is largely considered the hub of the Colorado ski culture. With the ski season fast approaching, locals and resort officials alike welcomed the snow with open arms.

Breckenridge and Keystone Ski Resorts opened for the season Friday, November 11th with two high speed quads and fresh snow for opening day. The resort started October off with an impressive snow storm delivering 30 inches of snow and two additional storms brought the October total snowfall to over 40 inches. This year has provided one of the best pre-seasons ever as November continued the pattern and delivered an inspiring 89 additional inches of snow to the resorts. This is the most snowfall received at this time of year since the resort began keeping records! The new Imperial Express Chair opened on December 2, a full six weeks ahead of schedule. This lift is the highest in North America and will shuttle skiers and riders to the top of Imperial Bowl, an astronomical 12,840 feet altitude.
