Early Ski Season at A-Basin- the locals tell all!

Employees of ResortQuest Steamboat couldn't wait for the first run of the season so they headed to Arapahoe Basin to camp out in the parking lot for the best first tracks.

We of course recommend a nice warm bed to sleep in but some like it cold! See our lodging deals- get lodging deals for Breckenridge or Keystone- just minutes away from A-basin!

(Written by Will Stone- ResortQuest Steamboat) "My friends and I set out to Arapahoe Basin to get our first tracks of the year! We set out to camp in the parking lot then wake up and catch some fresh early tracks. We took a brief stop in Dillon, CO where we met some co-workers for dinner at the Damn Brewery . Our co-workers were on their way to Breckenridge for Breckenridge Ski Resort's opening day and were staying at River Mountain Lodge. After dinner we headed up Loveland Pass to Arapahoe Basin. We parked and were the only people up there. After several hours of hanging out by the camp fire, we headed to bed for our beauty sleep till the morning!

I moved the truck around 730am in the morning to Arapahoe’s famous “Beach” parking lot. We soon got ready and headed to the cafeteria for some food the quickly to the slopes. Wow it was cold. The mountain was open top to bottom and we were surprised at the amount of coverage the mountain had open. Colorado really has a lot of snow for this time of year and it is only going to get better. We made lots of runs before the crowds started to build up so we took a break to let them settle down before resuming. After skiing all day we headed down to the lodge to have some their “World Famous” Bloody Mary’s. Yum, these are half the reason I go here, besides the great terrain and super nice people. By the end of the day we were knackered and headed home. The snow was falling on Rabbit Ears pass near Steamboat and hasn’t stopped since then!!! Perfect first tracks..."

If you are dying to get some powder you better head to Breckenridge or Keystone! Both resorts are open and have received massive amounts of snow over the past few days- Breckenridge is reporting 35" in the last 7 days and Keystone has been covered with 24" in the past 7 days.
